HOW IT ALL BEGAN
BORN TO PLAY
From a young age, Cati knew she wanted to become a professional drummer and worked hard to develop the necessary skills to achieve that.
Cati was born in Bogota, Colombia and moved to Miami, Florida in 1999. Inspired by her family’s love for music, Cati picked up the drums at age 9, fueled by a dream to start a family band. Though the rock band family dream wasn’t mean to be, she was hooked and a passion was ignited. Cati continued playing eventually taking lessons from John Snider (the drummer for Eddie Money) focusing mostly on classic rock, blues, and funk grooves. However, in order to earn a drumset Cati needed to stick with lessons for a year while keeping up with schoolwork and sports.
This lesson in determination and tenacity taught her that playing music is both a privilege and gift and she learned to respect those truths during her weekly lessons as she finished middle school and high school.
WASHINGTON D.C.
Cati moved to attend George Washington University and continued exploring her interest in music and sports by pursuing a B.A. in music while playing water polo at a collegiate D1 level. By her third year, Cati decided to focus solely on her love for music and joined the school’s jazz combo, Latin, and fusion groups. During this time she also began networking and getting her foot in the door of the local music scene. Participating in open jams around the city resulted in Cati being asked to join REX, a DC-based punk/go-go band. This connected her with the local music scene and led her to join original rock band Osiris Device. She went on to play with both bands at venues like the National Museum of American History and the opening festival of local staple 7DrumCity.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
In 2017, Cati received offers from two local bands; The Perfectionists, a popular DC cover band, and allthebestkids, an original funk/hip-hop band. She accepted both positions thus solidifying her local career as a full time musician and sought-after drummer. In the past 3 years Cati has performed at established venues including The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Union Stage, and 9:30 Club. Currently, she continues playing with cover band The Perfectionists along with The Fuss, an eight piece reggae/ska band, and RoseRiot, an all-female pop punk original band. Despite being committed to 3 bands, Cati is always looking for more work and is available for live or studio freelance gigs.
